Hi! I’m Sam Wipf. My husband, 3 kids, and I live in the beautiful driftless region of rural Wisconsin.
Among other things, I love to sing–especially harmony–listen to good music, read, write, drink coffee, discuss books, notice beauty, talk deep, take 87 pictures of the same bunch of clouds, whistle, walk, garden, and eat.
What is Symbel-wynn?
If you’re wondering what on earth “Symbel-wynn” means, I’d love to tell you! Symbel is an Old English word that means Feast. Wynn is Old English for Joy or Delight. So, Symbel-wynn literally means Feast-Joy or Delight in Feasting.
My husband and I love to feed people simple, tasty food. Brandon is the master meat maker. I tend to be the “everything else” cook. It works pretty well, I’d say. Our meals aren’t complicated or exotic, but they tend to be fairly delicious. The thing is, there is nothing quite like sitting down to a good meal with friends and family.
Eating good food is not the only form of feasting our family enjoys. I believe our books and discussion and observations of the world around us are dishes and courses in the great feast for our hearts and minds.
To quote the great educator Charlotte Mason, “We spread an abundant and delicate feast in the programs and each small guest assimilates what he can.” One of my greatest desires is to foster a deep and lasting joy in learning and growing and sharing the love of it all with others.
Ah, but these feasts I’ve described are merely hints ultimately pointing and drawing us to the best feast that is yet to come for those born into God’s family. At the marriage supper of the Lamb, our eyes and ears and tastebuds will finally fully realize what each of our limited earthly feasts were yearning toward.
It is my hope that the meager spoonfuls served on this page will be tinged with the taste that stirs the longing that draws you onward to that great Symbel-wynn.
Please pull up a chair and take joy!
