My dryer broke a couple weeks ago, and I have really enjoyed it. There, I said it.
The best thing about having an appliance break is the new appreciation you have both for having and not having one. I have my dryer back as of last night, and I suddenly feel like I have a servant in the house doing my “bidding” without a single complaint.
But, not having a dryer for a couple weeks had me outside listening to the birds, practicing my slip knots to tie up the clothesline, grabbing kids to come help while we laugh about the possibility of laundry thieves, watching the sky for rain, noticing the effects of humidity, and really, really appreciating the sun for its cheer and warmth and cleaning abilities.
So, what do I do with this awakening? My dryer is now fixed–yet another thing to notice is Brandon’s awesome “I can fix that” attitude–and I go back to the status quo. I no longer “need” to thank God for sunny days and the necessity of running out in the rain and enjoying the fuss of tearing clothes down with my kids. What do I do with this? I guess I thank God for the glimpse of His goodness and keep my eyes peeled for moments to “rejoice in all circumstances.”
